The Trinamool Congress is spearheading an effort to engage in a crucial dialogue regarding the issue of duplicate voter ID cards in the Rajya Sabha. The party, alongside other opposition voices, is pushing for a discussion under Rule 176 next week, having faced rejections under Rule 267, which was deemed inappropriate by the Chair.
A noticeable push from various opposition parties shows a united front. Nine separate notices under Rule 267 were dismissed, reinforcing demands to allow an open forum discussion rather than disrupting the House's proceedings. The opposition seeks transparency in Election Commission processes, especially concerning alleged multiple duplicate voter IDs issued across different states.
Notable parliamentarians from TMC, Congress, and other parties insist on revisiting this controversy to safeguard democratic integrity. Meanwhile, different parliamentary tools remain available for discussion on voters' concerns, as underlined by House Deputy Chairman Harivansh.
