In the Assam Assembly, Speaker Biswajit Daimary rejected two breach of privilege motions aimed at Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and a censure motion against Health Minister Ashok Singhal, all initiated by the Congress party. Daimary delivered the ruling on the final day of the budget session.
Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia, along with Congress MLAs, sought action against Sarma for remarks made under the 'Speaker's Initiative' on Sixth Schedule area development and for allegedly misleading information tied to an inquiry commission report on Assam Public Service Commission exams.
The Speaker contended that no evidence supported the claim of Sarma's intent to mislead the House, leading to the dismissal of the motions. Daimary also explained that Saikia's censure motion stood invalid as it pertained to events occurring outside the House.
