In a significant political development, JP Nadda, the Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha, met with Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Wednesday to discuss judiciary accountability amid allegations involving Delhi High Court judge Justice Yashwant Varma. Both leaders reportedly agreed to consult their respective parties for further input, sources revealed.
The discussions follow a fruitful interaction a day earlier between Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar and Rajya Sabha floor leaders. Dhankar informed the House that the meeting was constructive, especially regarding concerns about the National Judicial Appointment Commission (NJAC), and emphasized that the talks were marked by consensual cooperation and concern.
Dhankar clarified that the issue at hand is not a confrontation between executive, legislature, or judiciary, but about collective functioning with checks and balances. The meeting concluded with an agreement among political leaders, including Nadda and Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge, to engage in wider consultations within their parties before reconvening for further deliberations on the matter.
