Albania's Socialists Lead in EU Membership Boosting Election

As Albania counts votes from its recent parliamentary election, preliminary results show the ruling Socialist Party holding a significant lead. Under Prime Minister Edi Rama, the party has secured 53% of the votes, surpassing the opposition Democratic Party's 35%.

The election turnout was 42.16%, including the diaspora's votes for the first time, despite reports of minor irregularities. Overseen by international observers, electoral transparency remained a priority for the Balkan nation.

Amid promises of EU membership by 2030, Rama's campaign focused on boosting tourism and infrastructure. His main political opponent, Sali Berisha, led a campaign reminiscent of Donald Trump's, hiring his former consultants.
