Kremlin Warns of Middle East's Descent into Chaos

The Kremlin has issued a stern warning about the escalating tensions in the Middle East, describing the region as descending into 'an abyss of instability and war.' Despite Moscow's strong ties with Iran and links to Israel, Russia is pushing for a diplomatic resolution and cautioned the United States against military strikes on Iran.

In a statement on Friday, Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin's spokesperson, emphasized that it is the countries in the Middle East that should determine their red lines. He highlighted the geographic and strategic risks posed to Russia, given its proximity to the region, which includes former Soviet republics bordering Iran and Turkey.

Meanwhile, Russian nuclear chief Alexei Likhachev confirmed that operations at Iran's Bushehr nuclear power plant are normal and under control, refuting earlier reports of an Israeli strike. Addressing concerns in St. Petersburg, Likhachev called for restraint, warning that an attack on the plant could result in a Chernobyl-like disaster.
