Union Minister Hardeep Puri has urged the global community to shut down funding channels for terrorism as he paid respect to victims of the Air India Flight 182 bombing on its 40th anniversary. Acknowledging the shared challenge, Puri called for closer cooperation between India and Canada.
The Air India Flight 182, which exploded over the Atlantic Ocean on June 23, 1985, was a result of a bomb planted by Canadian terrorists, leaving 329 dead, including many Canadians of Indian descent. Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin and Canada's Minister of Public Safety Gary Anandasangaree joined in remembering the victims at a memorial in Ireland.
Puri emphasized the need for unified global efforts against terrorism, stressing that these threats remain present and deadly. He highlighted India's enduring fight against such violence and stressed the importance of stopping extremist ideology abroad, calling on Canada to collaborate on intelligence sharing and preventive measures.
