BJP's Battle Against 'Repressive Policies': Protests Brewing in Himachal Pradesh

Himachal Pradesh BJP chief Rajiv Bindal declared a protest scheduled for August 6 at Mandi against what he termed the state government's 'repressive policies'. He accused the government of systematically targeting political opponents with false FIRs, a routine that undermines dissent.

Bindal criticized the registration of FIRs against BJP and disaster-affected people, questioning the fairness and legality behind these actions. He highlighted incidents in Mandi where people faced charges of wrongful restraint and unlawful assembly for expressing dissent against Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi.

Highlighting fiscal disparities, Bindal alleged the state government spent Rs 150 crore on disaster relief from 2022 to 2025 but failed to use central funds adequately. He criticized Congress for resuming lottery operations, reinforcing it as a shift from job creation to gambling, and demanded apologies for allegations of 'saffron terrorism'.
