In a bold move, BRS MLC and Telangana Jagruthi president K Kavitha initiated a 72-hour fast to protest the Congress government's proposed reservation policy. She urged the government to decouple the 42 per cent reservation for Backward Classes (BC) from the quota aimed at Muslim minorities.
Kavitha's demand comes amid the BJP's opposition to including Muslims in the proposed BC reservation. She called for a separate 10 per cent reservation for Muslims. The protest has highlighted tensions as the Telangana Legislative Assembly's bill for increased BC reservations awaits Presidential assent.
Meanwhile, state Backward Classes Minister Ponnam Prabhakar suggested Kavitha take her protest to Delhi, where key decisions will be made. As local political dynamics heat up, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Congress leaders are mobilizing efforts in the national capital to push for the reservation bill's endorsement.
