BJP's Annamalai Urges Unity for VP Nominee Radhakrishnan

BJP leader K Annamalai appealed to the INDIA bloc parties to set aside differences and support NDA's Vice President nominee, CP Radhakrishnan. He emphasized Tamil Nadu's legacy of producing notable leaders in top constitutional positions and urged support for Radhakrishnan as a tribute to the state's contributions.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader K Annamalai has called on the INDIA bloc parties to transcend political divides and back the National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) Vice President nominee, CP Radhakrishnan. In a social media post, Annamalai highlighted Tamil Nadu's history of producing eminent leaders who have held key constitutional roles in India.

Annamalai underscored the historical context by recalling Tamil Nadu's contribution to national leadership, citing personalities like Thiru Sarvepalli Radha Krishnan and Thiru R Venkatraman, who transitioned from Vice Presidents to Presidents of India. He also recalled the NDA's nomination of Thiru APJ Abdul Kalam for President, emphasizing the honor associated with such recognitions.

Emphasizing statesmanship, Annamalai urged parties within the INDIA bloc, including DMK, Congress, CPI, CPIM, and others, to recognize Radhakrishnan's candidacy and honor Tamil Nadu's legacy. Annamalai stated that the election should transcend politics and reflect the state's enduring impact on national leadership.

Radhakrishnan's nomination has already received support from BJP's allies TDP and JD(U). The Vice President position became vacant following Jagdeep Dhankhar's resignation for health reasons. The election, set for September 9, will be governed by a system of proportional representation and supervised by Rajnath Singh for the NDA.

BJP National President JP Nadda, after a meeting in New Delhi, announced efforts to engage the Opposition to aim for a consensus and potentially an uncontested election. (ANI)
