The Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar) has voiced strong demands for the BJP-led government in Maharashtra and the State Election Commission to adhere promptly to the Supreme Court's directive to conduct local body elections that have faced prolonged delays.
NCP spokesperson Clyde Crasto criticized the BJP and the State Election Commission for not fulfilling an earlier court order to notify and hold elections within the stipulated timeframe, and urged immediate compliance with the new deadline set for January 31, 2026.
The Supreme Court has made clear that no additional extensions will be provided, reflecting frustration over repeated delays in the election process, and underscoring potential legal consequences should the state fail to comply.
