On Tuesday, Indian Ambassador Naveen Srivastava met with Nepal's newly-appointed Prime Minister, Sushila Karki, at her office in Singha Durbar. During the meeting, he conveyed a congratulatory message from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The message expressed India's commitment to further strengthening the friendship and cooperation between the two neighboring countries. This announcement came directly from Nepal's Foreign Ministry via a social media platform.
Karki, who became Nepal's first woman prime minister on Sunday, stepped into office following the political turbulence that saw the removal of Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli. Protests, chiefly organized by the youth against corruption, and restrictions on social media marked this transition. The new interim government is tasked with organizing fresh elections in March 2026.
