The lawsuit targets several articles and a book contributed to by two journalists, accusing them of being part of a long-standing campaign to damage Trump's reputation. Trump asserts that The New York Times made false statements either negligently or with reckless disregard for the truth.
Responding to the lawsuit, Times spokesman Charles Stadtlander dismissed it as an attack on independent journalism, labeling it an intimidation tactic. Penguin Random House, involved in the case due to the mentioned book, also criticized the lawsuit as baseless.
