West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed deep shock over the alleged suicide of Pradeep Kar, a resident of North 24 Parganas district, who reportedly left a note blaming the National Register of Citizens (NRC) for his death. The 57-year-old was found hanging in his home in Panihati on Tuesday.
Banerjee utilized a post on social media platform X to condemn the BJP's strategy, which she terms as 'politics of fear and division,' asserting that their campaign regarding the NRC has instilled panic among citizens. She accused the BJP of converting 'constitutional democracy into a theatre of fear.'
The Chief Minister has rallied against the central government's stance, vowing that West Bengal will not implement NRC and will defend the rights and dignity of its residents. She appealed for an end to what she dubbed the 'heartless game' and reiterated the state's commitment to opposing such divisive measures.
