The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has escalated its confrontation with the Election Commission, accusing the poll body of selectively leaking information related to the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in West Bengal. TMC's national general secretary, Abhishek Banerjee, demanded that the commission release entire CCTV footage and evidence linked to the exercise, suggesting that the EC's rebuttals are based on 'outright lies.'
Banerjee's statements on Platform X allege that the Election Commission is engaging in 'motivated leaks' while failing to be transparent with the public. He urged the poll body to disclose all materials rather than selectively releasing information, suggesting that anything less would expose their 'bad faith.'
The TMC claims that the SIR process is an 'impossible workload' for Booth Level Officers (BLOs), resulting in severe consequences, including deaths. This intensified stance follows a TMC delegation meeting with the EC in New Delhi, setting a tense stage as West Bengal gears up for the 2026 Assembly polls.
