Jaishankar Highlights India's Strategic Diversification Amid Global Uncertainties

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, speaking at IIM-Calcutta, stated that politics is emerging as more significant than economics in today's unpredictable world. He stressed the necessity of diversifying supply sources to secure national interests. Jaishankar's comments followed his acceptance of an Honorary Doctorate from the institution.

Jaishankar highlighted India's strides towards self-reliance, transforming into a manufacturing hub. He pointed out that the United States, now pursuing new terms of engagement, and China, which continues its unique approaches, are influencing global dynamics. Acknowledging these pressures, Jaishankar emphasized a global shift towards hedging against uncertainties.

Additionally, Jaishankar mentioned India's narrowing gap with other Asian nations in infrastructure and technology. He highlighted India's 'Make in India' initiative as evidence of the country's ambitions, noting advancements in fields like semiconductors and electric vehicles. These efforts, Jaishankar remarked, are crucial for India's goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
