On Monday, tensions ran high outside the West Bengal CEO's office as members of the BLO Adhikar Raksha Committee staged a protest demanding improved working conditions for Booth Level Officers (BLOs). The demonstration heated up as BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari and several MLAs visited for a scheduled meeting with Election Commission (EC) officials.
The police had preemptively cordoned off the area, but protesters attempted to breach barricades and shouted slogans like 'go back,' specifically targeting the BJP delegation. Despite limited initial participation from actual BLOs, the group's sit-in gathered momentum, drawing more supporters and sparking sharp verbal exchanges with BJP workers present at the scene.
Amid the uproar, security personnel managed to maintain order, allowing Adhikari and BJP leaders to enter the CEO's office and submit a memorandum as planned. The BLO Adhikar Raksha Committee accused the administration of pressuring BLOs during the Special Intensive Revision exercise, an allegation the ruling Trinamool Congress refutes. Meanwhile, the BJP claimed the protest was politically motivated to obstruct their visit.
