Turkish Solutions for Gaza: A New Path Forward
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan suggests establishing a credible Palestinian civil administration and vetted police to pave the way for Hamas to disarm. The proposed police force would operate under international backing. Fidan emphasizes the importance of these steps for advancing the ceasefire plan.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated on Saturday that establishing a credible Palestinian civil administration and a vetted police force is crucial for enabling Hamas to disarm. Fidan stressed this during an interview with Reuters at the Doha Forum.
Without these preliminary measures, he argued, expecting Hamas to disarm at the initial stage of the ceasefire deal is "neither realistic nor doable." The proposed police force, he added, would operate independently of Hamas members and be supported by an international stabilization force.
Fidan also highlighted that the U.S., led by President Donald Trump, is actively engaging with Israel regarding Turkey's potential participation in this force, warning that international failure to move the ceasefire plan forward would be a significant setback.
