Asaduddin Owaisi, leader of the AIMIM, delivered a compelling speech in the Lok Sabha, arguing against the association of patriotism with any singular religious identity. He stressed that such a link breaches constitutional principles, potentially aggravating social division across India's diverse population.

During a discussion on the 150 years of the national song 'Vande Mataram', Owaisi emphasized the Constitution's assurance of equal rights for all citizens, independent of religious affiliation or symbols. He highlighted that the country's founding Preamble starts with 'We the People', rather than invoking any deity.

Owaisi critiqued historical instances where alliances with religious divisiveness occurred, referencing Muslim League coalition governments during World War II. He asserted that patriotism rooted in religious rituals contradicts constitutional values and should not be imposed as a measure of loyalty.
