In a dramatic political shift, Congress MLC Pradnya Satav has joined the BJP in Maharashtra, only hours after resigning from her legislative position. Her defection surfaces as a crucial development ahead of the state's local body elections, marking a potential blow to the Congress party.
Satav, who hails from the Hingoli district in Marathwada, is known as the spouse of the late Congress leader Rajiv Satav and a close associate of Lok Sabha's opposition leader, Rahul Gandhi. She brought her experience as vice president of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee to the BJP, having been first elected to the Legislative Council in 2021.
This political realignment happens as Maharashtra prepares for elections to 29 municipal corporations on January 15. The leadership trust placed in Satav by the BJP was mirrored in her own rapid resignation and transition from her MLC role, a decision seen as a response to the evolving political dynamics in the region.
