Former ICE Deputy Director Madison Sheahan Announces Congressional Run
Madison Sheahan, former U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Deputy Director, is leaving the agency to run for Congress in Ohio's 9th District. Previously a close ally of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, Sheahan’s candidacy challenges Democratic Representative Marcy Kaptur amid rising tensions and scrutiny over ICE's enforcement actions.
Madison Sheahan, the Deputy Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), announced her departure from the agency to pursue a political career. She will run for Congress representing Ohio's 9th District, challenging the incumbent Democrat, Representative Marcy Kaptur.
The announcement comes amid heightened scrutiny of ICE, following two fatal enforcement actions in Minneapolis. One incident involved the fatal shooting of Renee Good, resulting in widespread protests. ICE's aggressive tactics, including public arrests and the use of chemical irritants, have drawn criticism and tension in cities.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem praised Sheahan's contributions to the agency. Sheahan's departure marks the latest leadership change within ICE under Trump's tenure, with internal frustrations and leadership reshuffling prevalent in the agency. The upcoming U.S. midterm elections may shift the political landscape with control of Congress at stake.
