The counting of votes for the Mumbai municipal corporation elections kicked off Friday morning, revealing a strong lead for the BJP and its ally Shiv Sena. As the results rolled in from 210 out of 227 wards, trends indicated the Mahayuti alliance was nearing the majority, potentially overpowering the BMC.

Television channels reported the BJP in the vanguard in 92 wards in Mumbai, with the Shiv Sena trailing at 26. Despite lacking confirmation from the State Election Commission, the prospects for a Mahayuti victory grew stronger. Meanwhile, in Latur, the Congress-Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi alliance claimed victory.

The election saw a voter turnout of 52.94%, down from previous figures. With elections delayed by four years, this cycle marked a pivotal contest, especially in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region's nine municipalities. As exit polls had predicted, the Mahayuti sweep seems on track across various municipal corporations.
