The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured a commanding lead in the Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad civic elections, surpassing the alliance between Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) factions led by Ajit Pawar and his uncle, Sharad Pawar. Results show BJP ahead in 29 wards in Pune, leading in 43 others, according to the civic body's election department.
The NCP factions are trailing, collectively winning five seats in Pune. The BJP's influence extends to the Pimpri-Chinchwad body, leading with 81 seats. This election comes amid BJP's previous five-year tenure dominance in Pune and PCMC. Congress holds only three seats but leads in nine others in the Pune civic council.
Civic polls across Maharashtra, including Kolhapur, Satara, Solapur, and Sangli, show BJP's expanding influence. Political discourse was marked by fierce debates between BJP and NCP leader Ajit Pawar over alleged civic management irregularities. This remarkable electoral performance further cements BJP's stronghold in Maharashtra.
