Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Friday lambasted the BJP, accusing the ruling party of driving Kanpur into decline and tarnishing its reputation as an industrial center. Speaking at a press conference in Civil Lines, Yadav remarked on the city's association with road mishaps, police-lawyer disputes, and orchestrated encounters as indicators of a governance crisis.

The SP chief highlighted the shuttering of the historic Lal Imli textile mill and the continued pollution of the Ganga due to untreated sewage as signs of mismanagement. Promising a transformative revival should the Samajwadi Party regain power, Yadav outlined plans for a superior riverfront project, mill revitalization, and industrial investment growth.

He censured the Smart City initiative, dubbing Kanpur a 'Jam City' because of traffic woes, and criticized voter list discrepancies, education policies, and lenient enforcement actions for selective areas, including Dal Mandi in Varanasi. Yadav called for election readiness among party workers, arguing for governance change.
