The Kerala unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday voiced strong criticisms against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, following his recent remarks that were perceived as supportive of Iran amid ongoing tensions in West Asia. The comments have ignited controversy, especially among those wary of the alleged appeasement politics.
State BJP President Rajeev Chandrasekhar, addressing a press conference, questioned Vijayan's focus on Iran, particularly given the considerable Malayalee diaspora residing in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations like Bahrain, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia. Chandrasekhar expressed concern over the Chief Minister's silence on incidents affecting these countries.
In his statement, Chandrasekhar emphasized the Indian government's diplomatic approach towards conflicts, highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's stance that war is never a solution. He urged Vijayan to address local matters in Kerala, suggesting that recent remarks could be a tactic to divert public attention from state issues.
