BJP Unveils Candidates for Assam Assembly Elections

The BJP has unveiled its first set of 88 candidates for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, stirring political dynamics in the state. Incumbent Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is poised to retain his Jalukbari seat, seeking a sixth consecutive term.
Sarma is among many prominent leaders fielded by the BJP, including sitting MP Hitendra Nath Goswami, who will challenge Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Gaurav Gogoi in the Jorhat constituency. Recent BJP joiners, Pradyut Bordoloi and Bhupen Borah, are ready to contest from Dispur and Bihpuria, respectively.
Top BJP figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, were present at the Central Election Committee meeting orchestrated by BJP Assam unit chief Dilip Saikia. The assembly poll is slated for April 9, with results expected on May 4.
