In a significant move on the political chessboard of West Bengal, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury declared his allegiance to the party by stating that he stands ready to contest the elections from any constituency designated by the party leadership.

Chowdhury emphasized that everyone in Congress has been advised to remain united as the party gears up to contest the polls independently. Speculation is rife that Chowdhury might be fielded from Berhampore, despite losing the last Lok Sabha bid from there.

Congress faced poor performance in the previous two assembly elections while in alliance with the Left parties, having partnered with Trinamool Congress in 2011. The upcoming West Bengal assembly elections will unfurl in two phases next April.
