In a fiery address, TMC senior leader Abhishek Banerjee launched an incisive critique against the BJP, accusing them of hypocrisy concerning Bengali culture. At an election rally in South 24 Parganas, Banerjee reprimanded the BJP for allegedly breaking the bust of Bengali polymath Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar in 2019, labeling them 'anti-Bengal' and 'outsider vandals'.
Banerjee contended that the BJP's affinity for Bengali culinary customs, particularly their public display with fish, rings hollow given their past actions. Highlighting their governance in NDA-ruled states, he warned the electorate about potential dietary restrictions on fish and meat if the BJP assumes power. His rhetoric underscored TMC's commitment to cultural pluralism and freedom of choice.
Addressing security threats from Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Banerjee alleged attempts at intimidation towards TMC activists. Insisting on the BJP's absence during crises like the COVID-19 pandemic, he showcased TMC's relief efforts, emphasizing the party's consistent grassroots presence as a counterpoint to BJP's 'migratory bird' behavior during poll seasons.
