In Kolkata, BJP workers have erupted into celebration outside the state headquarters as preliminary results in the West Bengal assembly polls show the party leading. Supporters, brandishing images of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, chanted 'Jai Shri Ram' and acclaimed the Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, while decrying the ruling TMC.
The enthusiastic crowd exchanged sweets and eagerly shared them with passersby. A BJP worker, Ankit Jaiswal, expressed optimism, stating they would hold even more grandiose celebrations and smear 'aabir' (gulaal) on each other once the final results are confirmed.
According to data from the Election Commission, trends from 190 out of the 294 constituencies indicate that the BJP is leading in 117 seats, while TMC leads in 70 constituencies, setting a competitive tone for the final outcome of the elections.
