In a dramatic turn of events, Pradyut Bordoloi, formerly a veteran Congress MP, is securely positioned in the lead for the Dispur constituency. The latest updates from the Election Commission reveal Bordoloi with a significant margin of 26,836 votes over his Congress rival, Mira Borthakur Goswami, after six rounds of ballot counting out of 20.
Bordoloi’s transition from Congress to BJP in mid-March, just ahead of the critical April 9 elections, has evidently paid dividends. The candidate has accumulated a total of 39,040 votes, starkly overshadowing Goswami's 12,204 votes, as per the Election Commission’s figures.
Meanwhile, independent candidate Jayanta Kumar Das trails in a distant third place with 5,439 votes. Bordoloi’s political shift appears to have resonated with voters, marking his campaign as a noteworthy development in this season’s election drama.
