BJP leaders in Karnataka have accused the state government of concealing irregularities in the 2023 Sringeri Assembly election, appealing to the Governor for intervention. Post-election, they sought clarity on the recounting of postal ballots, which favored BJP candidate D N Jeevaraj after allegations of 'vote dacoity' against Congress surfaced.
Leader of Opposition R Ashoka and BJP's D N Jeevaraj alleged that postal ballots were not counted as required, leading to calls for a CBI probe. The BJP criticized Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for labeling opponents as 'vote dacoits', demanding transparency and constitutional adherence in the election process.
Following a High Court directive, a recount reversed the election outcome in favor of Jeevaraj. Accusations of vote manipulation and tampering were made, with BJP leaders insisting on the Governor’s intervention to ensure oath administration and adherence to constitutional norms amid political protests.
