In the wake of the United Democratic Front's decisive victory in the recent Keralam elections, Congress MP Jebi Mather has reasserted the party's commitment to a democratic procedure in selecting the new Chief Minister. Speaking to ANI, Mather criticized the BJP's approach, contrasting it with Congress's rejection of the 'chit system' as observed in Rajasthan.
Mather detailed the process, stating that the party leadership will dispatch observers to Keralam who will gather opinions from all newly elected MLAs. This consultative process will pave the way for announcing the Chief Minister's name. She emphasized that Congress prides itself on being a democratic entity, starkly differing from Rajasthan's method of selection by chit.
The Congress party, having secured 63 out of 140 seats, and with its allies like the IUML obtaining significant wins, has begun forming the new government. Rahul Gandhi has lauded the efforts of UDF leaders and looks forward to engaging with the Keralam populace, expressing optimism about the future under UDF's leadership.
