Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of orchestrating a climate of fear as part of preparations for the forthcoming state assembly elections. He branded the twin blasts in Amritsar and Jalandhar as 'minor' and claimed they are tactics to secure votes through intimidation.
The incidents, occurring outside the Border Security Force's Punjab Frontier headquarters in Jalandhar and near the army cantonment area in Khasa, Amritsar, are, according to Mann, a demonstration of the BJP's continued strategy of using minor blasts and communal discord to influence electoral outcomes, mirroring alleged BJP tactics in other states.
Highlighting Punjab's historical significance in crises, Mann vowed to maintain peace and law and order. He called for the Election Commission to assert fairness in polls, referencing complaints from West Bengal's recent assembly elections about electoral discrepancies. The newly enacted anti-sacrilege law in Punjab was noted as a measure against communal incitement.
