BJP's Mizoram unit president K. Beichhua on Friday exuded confidence that the party's present position in state capital Aizawl would improve significantly in the future. Addressing a function at the party office here, Beichhua said the BJP was often ridiculed in the state due to misconceptions about it among people. He praised party candidates for their courageous participation in the recently concluded Aizawl Municipal Corporation polls, where the BJP, despite fielding 11 candidates, drew a blank. ''I strongly hope that Aizawl will soon elect BJP MLAs and a BJP-led leadership in the AMC,'' the former minister said. Emphasising development as Mizoram's greatest need, Beichhua said true development can only be achieved through good governance, a strong and courageous government, transparency, fair administration, and equal treatment of both the rich and the poor. He credited former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for promoting such governance principles during his tenure. Beichhua also highlighted infrastructure and connectivity as key drivers of development, stating that the BJP-led central government has played a major role in enhancing connectivity in Mizoram, including the development of four-lane and double-lane highways linking various district headquarters. He said the arrival of railway connectivity has brought significant developments to the state. He urged the people of Mizoram to support the BJP without fear, claiming the party is capable of delivering all-round development to the state. Addressing the long-standing hesitation within the Christian-majority state toward the BJP, Beichhua said that his faith had never been compromised despite serving as both a BJP legislator and state BJP president. ''I am a Christian MLA and the BJP state president, and my faith has not diminished in the slightest. We must understand the true purpose of politics. If you seek all-round development, the answer lies with the BJP,'' he said. He added that Mizoram is greatly in need of a government led by the BJP. In the 40-member assembly, the BJP has two members. The party is also currently in power in the Mara Autonomous District Council (MADC) in the southern part of the state.
