Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Saturday called the swearing-in of Suvendu Adhikari as the CM of West Bengal a ''historic chapter'' in the politics of the state, and said it would scale new heights of development under the ''double-engine government''. He also said that people's long-awaited desire for change has finally been realised in West Bengal. Sai attended the oath-taking ceremony of Adhikari in Kolkata and later met him, an official statement said. Sai congratulated Adhikari and all newly-inducted members of the West Bengal cabinet, wishing them a successful tenure. ''This mandate is not merely for a change in government, but reflects the people's resolve to establish development, good governance and a new work culture in West Bengal,'' Sai said in the release. He expressed confidence that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and with the strength of a double-engine government (BJP government at the Centre and state), West Bengal would scale new heights of development. Sai said the new government would create better employment opportunities for youth, open new avenues of prosperity for farmers and ensure a safer and more empowering environment for women. ''The people of West Bengal have expressed their clear faith in development, transparency and good governance,'' he said. Sai further said that under Adhikari's leadership, West Bengal would move forward with renewed energy and direction, ensuring safety for women, better opportunities for youth and progress towards realising the vision of ''Sonar Bangla'' (Golden Bengal). Adhikari on Saturday took oath as West Bengal's first BJP chief minister, marking a dramatic saffron turn in the state's political history. The BJP secured 207 seats in the 294-member West Bengal assembly in the recently concluded elections, ending the Trinamool Congress' 15-year rule.
