Veteran CPI(M) leader T K Hamza on Saturday said the LDF loss in the Kerala Assembly polls was not due to any anti-incumbency sentiment, but due to the alliance of the UDF, BJP and Jamaat-e-Islami to prevent the Left from returning to power for a third time. Speaking to a TV channel here, Hamza, a former minister, claimed that it was due to such an alliance that the BJP captured the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, else it would not have been possible. ''They knew that if the LDF won for a third time, then it would be difficult to push the Left out of power in the future. So, the Congress, Indian Union Muslim League, BJP and the Jamaat-e-Islami's Welfare Party all worked hard together to defeat the LDF,'' he contended. Regarding various Left leaders, like G Sudhakaran, V Kunhikrishnan and T K Govindan, leaving the CPI(M) due to issues with the party leadership, he said that there have always been small problems in the organisation that members have left as a result. ''When they leave, a few of their supporters vote for them. Adding that with the Congress-League-BJP alliance results in them winning,'' he claimed, referring to the rebel Left leaders' victories in the 2026 Assembly polls. On whether there should be a change in party leadership following the LDF defeat, Hamza said that such claims were always there after a loss. He also said that these claims were not from within the party, as otherwise such recommendations would have been made before the election.
