Controversy Rises: Bangla Pokkho Leader's Arrest Sparks Debate Over EVM Allegations

Garga Chatterjee, leader of pro-Bengali group Bangla Pokkho, was arrested by Kolkata Police for allegedly spreading misinformation about Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). His social media posts raised doubts about EVM functionality during the recent Assembly elections. This follows complaints from the District Election Officer and subsequent police action.

On Tuesday, Kolkata Police detained Garga Chatterjee, a leader of the 'Bangla Pokkho' advocacy group, following allegations that he spread misinformation about Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) during the Assembly elections.

Chatterjee's arrest came after the District Election Officer of Kolkata North filed a complaint against him, accusing him of using social media to question both the function of EVMs and the broader electoral process.

The police have indicated that Chatterjee was summoned twice in relation to the accusations but failed to appear, prompting his arrest. His court appearance is expected on Wednesday. Bangla Pokkho is known for its pro-Bengali stance, while Chatterjee has been vocal about alleged voting irregularities on social media.
