K P Dhanapalan, a prominent name in Kerala's Congress circles, died in a Paravur hospital, according to party sources. At 76, he had established himself as a key political figure over decades.

Initially admitted for health complications, Dhanapalan succumbed to his ailments while receiving medical care. An influential figure from Ernakulam district, he was a Lok Sabha member for Chalakudy in 2009 and also contested the 2014 elections from Thrissur. His career included significant roles like councillor of North Paravur municipa. He also held leadership positions in Milma and a local back.

Known as a close ally of A K Antony, Dhanapalan was remembered by V D Satheesan, Kerala’s Chief Minister, as a steadfast Congressman. Satheesan highlighted his calm demeanor and commitment to his party, noting that he was a crucial figure in Ernakulam politics. In his tribute, Satheesan lamented the personal loss of a reliable mentor and brotherly figure.
