German Chancellor Friedrich Merz hailed the G7's joint declaration of support for Ukraine and for fresh sanctions against Russia a success that marks a new tone particularly for transatlantic unity.
"This is the first time since (U.S.) President Trump took office that we have issued a joint declaration at a G7 summit and found common language on the major foreign and security policy issues of our time. I consider that a real success," said Merz on the sidelines of the Group of Seven meeting in Evian-les-Bains.
"This sets a new tone, including regarding transatlantic unity and resolve," he added.
