Modi's 50% plus performance dashed hopes of grand alliances
Himachal gives maximum 69% votes. In South, Karnataka has provided 51.38% votes and 25 out of 28 seats to BJP. The saffron party got 2.93% votes in the adjacent Kerala but without a seat. Tamil Nadu is still a no go zone for BJP where it got could garner only 3.66% votes.

Besides the record number of 302 seats won by her own, the ruling BJP has also secured above 50% votes in 13 states and union territories of India. The saffron party has garnered above 50% votes in 224 out of 302 LS constituencies it had won in the ensuing national election 2019. If the vote share of NDA allies is also included, the number of states giving more than 50% votes to the coalition increases to 15.
This is a significant stride for the saffron brigade as the less vote share in 2014 was the main intellectual ground for a grand alliance against the ruling party. In 2014, the BJP was benefitted due to the division of votes in triangular and quadrangular contests in several LS seats but this time the party has garnered over 50% votes on 224 seats on its own. In 2014, BJP had got over 50% votes on 136 seats only. This result has upgraded the saffron party as ultimate winners on those seats.
The largest vote shares for BJP came from Himachal Pradesh where the strong Modi wave fetched 69.11% votes for the ruling party. Himachal Pradesh was closely followed by BJP ruled Gujarat with 62.2% and Uttarakhand gave 61.01% votes. In the Congress-ruled Rajasthan where BJP had got only 38.8% votes in Assembly Elections 2018, it bagged 58.47% votes and also 58% in Madhya Pradesh. Delhi was the most surprising that completely reversed its verdict from around 56% votes to AAP in Delhi assembly elections 2015 to 56.56% votes to BJP in this LS election. The arithmetic of votes was very interesting in Uttar Pradesh where BJP bagged 49.5% votes but the SP-BSP alliance failed to combine its vote share of 2014. BJP also made a strong presence in Odisha by getting 38.37 % votes and 12% votes in Kerala.
In West Bengal, BJP got 40.25% votes which are only 3.03% less than Mamta Banerjee's TMC's 43.28%. Here BJP has a strong chance of ushering into power in the upcoming West Bengal Assembly polls. If the vote share of BJP-Shiv Sena alliance is added in Maharashtra it comes to 50.88 while in BJP – JDU-LJP alliance in Bihar was polled 53.24% votes.
