Mueller says interview with Trump would have dragged out end to probe

Former U.S. Special Counsel Robert Mueller said on Wednesday his office decided not to subpoena President Donald Trump for a face-to-face interview during Mueller's investigation into Russian interference in the U.S. election out of concern that a dispute over the matter would drag out the end of the probe.
"If we did subpoena the president, he would fight the subpoena and we would be in the midst of the investigation for a substantial period of time," Mueller told lawmakers during a hearing with the House intelligence panel, though he added that he understood he could do so.
