The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday escalated its weather warnings by issuing a red alert for Maharashtra's coastal districts of Raigad and Ratnagiri, as well as Kolhapur and Satara in the western region, signaling extremely heavy rainfall on July 14.

Additionally, the IMD has placed an orange alert for Thane district on Sunday, and a yellow alert for Mumbai, predicting moderate to heavy showers in the city and its suburbs, with an isolated chance of very heavy downpours.

Already under a red alert on Saturday, Raigad and Ratnagiri brace for continued storm activity. Meanwhile, Satara and Kolhapur are forecasted to receive extremely heavy rainfall in ghat areas, with moderate rainfall expected in the plains on Sunday.

The IMD continues to monitor the situation, having issued a yellow alert for the rest of the state. According to IMD scientist Sushma Nair, the monsoon, which has intensified since July 11, is set to persist for another two to three days.
