A wildfire near Labrador City in Newfoundland and Labrador forced 9,600 residents to evacuate as it grew to a 10,000-hectare inferno. Initially controlled, the fire's rapid spread over 21 kilometers in just four hours prompted immediate action. Evacuation alerts were issued for nearby communities like Wabush.
According to Premier Andrew Furey, perfect fire conditions on Friday exacerbated the situation. Waterbombers were deployed, and assistance was requested from other provinces and the federal government while residents made a grueling journey to Happy Valley-Goose Bay, roughly 500 kilometers away.
