Disaster management personnel have successfully rescued around 40 individuals stranded in agricultural fields in Bhadradri-Kothagudem district, Telangana, following a flood caused by a breach at a local rivulet.
The marooned individuals were evacuated with the help of two helicopters since Thursday evening, highlighting the urgency of the operation.
A revenue official confirmed that approximately 150 people were provided with food at a relief camp on Friday in the aftermath of the breach at the Peddavagu irrigation project, which resulted from heavy rains.
Water from the breached project flowed downstream into neighboring Andhra Pradesh, with crop damage yet to be fully assessed.
Meanwhile, several other rivulets in the state are currently in spate. The IMD has issued a red alert, warning of heavy-to-very-heavy rainfall, likely impacting isolated areas across multiple districts including Karimnagar, Peddapalli, and Mulugu.
The same alert has been issued for Saturday, forecasting similar weather conditions for districts such as Adilabad and Komaram Bheem Asifabad.
