Torrential Rains Cause Deadly Bridge Collapse in China

Twelve people were killed and over 60 others went missing following a bridge collapse during torrential rains in China's Shaanxi and Sichuan provinces, officials reported on Saturday.

The tragedy occurred in Zhashui County when the highway bridge partially collapsed around 8:40 pm on Friday due to a sudden downpour, plunging 17 cars and eight trucks into the Jinqian River. Rescue officials have recovered seven vehicles and continue search operations for the 31 unaccounted individuals.

Meanwhile, flash floods in Sichuan's Xinhua Village early Saturday left more than 30 people missing and destroyed over 40 houses. Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for all-out rescue and relief efforts to protect lives and property, emphasizing the prevention of secondary disasters.
