Rescue operations persist in landslide-stricken Wayanad, where search efforts are hindered by treacherous, muddy soil. Emergency workers continue to sift through debris of destroyed homes and buildings.
Government estimates indicate around 200 people remain unaccounted for, though unofficial sources suggest the figure may be higher. Critical equipment such as JCBs are being brought in to facilitate the search in worst-hit areas like Mundakkai. Officials report good progress on the Bailey bridge construction, essential for accessing isolated regions.
A Defence Public Relations Officer confirmed the Madras Engineers Group's steady advancement on the bridge at Choorlamala, despite adverse weather and rising water levels. Torrential rains caused significant landslides early Tuesday, affecting Mundakkai, Chooralmala, Attamala, and Noolpuzha hamlets, leading to multiple fatalities, including women and children.
