Tragic Building Collapse in Delhi: 3 Dead, 4 Injured

Three people died and four were injured after part of a two-storey building collapsed in Jahangirpuri, northwest Delhi. The building housed multiple factories and collapsed while laborers were repairing the terrace. Emergency services conducted a rescue operation and a police investigation is ongoing.

Three people lost their lives and another four were injured following a tragic partial collapse of a two-storey building in northwest Delhi's Jahangirpuri area on Friday, officials reported.

According to police, the building, which housed three separate factories in its basement, ground floor, and first floor, collapsed in the afternoon.

Situated in Jahangirpuri's D Block, the front portion of the dilapidated building gave way during repair work on its terrace, weakened due to seepage issues, causing the fatal incident.

Delhi Fire Services confirmed receiving an emergency call at 12:51 pm, prompting the dispatch of five fire tenders. The National Disaster Response Force, fire department, and local police carried out rescue operations until evening.

Initially, a laborer named Mukesh Kumar (45) was rescued from the rubble but later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Soon after, Phoolwati (50) and Vinod (43) were also retrieved but declared dead upon hospital arrival.

The three deceased individuals were factory workers. The building housed a gas-stove manufacturing unit, cardboard-making operation, and garment production factory.

The injured, identified as Thakur Das, Nirmala, Hari Shankar, and Jason, are currently being treated at Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital.

Witnesses described the collapse as sudden, likening it to a pack of cards falling. Locals, along with emergency services, promptly began removing debris and initiated the search for survivors.

In particular, Phoolwati's two sons, who rushed to the scene, mentioned it was her first day at work. Police informed the families of Mukesh Kumar and Vinod about the tragedy. The bodies are in the mortuary awaiting post-mortem examinations, while a police case has been registered and investigations are ongoing.
