Tropical Storm Debby, forming north of Cuba, is on a path towards Florida's Gulf Coast, where it is predicted to intensify into a hurricane. The National Hurricane Centre issued a warning, noting that Debby is currently situated approximately 50 miles west-southwest of Dry Tortugas National Park.
Maximum sustained winds have reached 45 mph as the storm moves northwest at 14 mph. Wind and thunderstorms are impacting areas including southern Florida, the Florida Keys, and the Bahamas. Forecasters expect Debby to bring heavy rainfall and coastal flooding by Sunday night.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has declared a state of emergency for 61 counties, with the National Guard mobilizing 3,000 members. Evacuation orders and storm preparedness activities are underway. The National Hurricane Centre is monitoring further intensification.
