A weather depression over the north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts has led to heavy rainfall, moving northwestwards before crossing Kalingapatnam early Sunday, according to an India Meteorological Department official. Currently, the system is centered over south Odisha and adjoining north Andhra Pradesh, approximately 90 km northwest of Visakhapatnam.
The official stated that the depression is likely to continue moving west-northwestwards over south Odisha and south Chhattisgarh, weakening into a well-marked low-pressure area within the next 24 hours.
As a result, several areas in Andhra Pradesh are bracing for more rainfall. Districts such as Srikakulam, Vijayanagaram, Parvatipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitarama Raju, Kakinada, and Nandyala are on high alert for heavy rainfall, while Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Konaseema, and others are expecting lighter showers.
The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority has issued a first-level flood warning at Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada due to increased water levels in the Krishna river from heavy inflows. Director R Kurmandh urged low-lying residents to remain cautious and avoid canals, manholes, and uprooted electric poles.
