Singapore Re-Engages with Andhra Pradesh for Fresh Collaborations

Singapore is keen on rekindling its relationship with Andhra Pradesh, one of India’s fastest-growing states, for potential investments in sectors such as green energy and digital technologies. The interest follows a period of dormancy after a previous collaboration in developing Amaravati ceased with the change of state government.

Singapore is eager to renew its relationship with Andhra Pradesh, a vibrant state in India known for its rapid growth, particularly in agri-food, manufacturing, and renewable energy sectors. The intention is to explore fresh partnerships and investment opportunities in areas including ports, green energy, and digital technologies.

During the tenure of Mr. Naidu, from 2014 to 2019, Singapore played a crucial role in drafting the masterplan for Andhra Pradesh's capital city Amaravati, through expert consultations and capacity building exercises. However, this collaboration stalled when a new government was elected in 2019, prompting Singapore to pull out of the Amaravati project.

Singapore remains committed to supporting Andhra Pradesh through technical cooperation in urban development, aligned with global development partners like the World Bank. Chief Minister and Singapore representatives express a mutual desire to rekindle connections for future growth.
