Xi Jinping Orders 'All-Out' Rescue After Deadly Chinese Flash Floods

Chinese President Xi Jinping has commanded comprehensive rescue efforts in northwestern China after severe flash floods incited by heavy rains caused fatalities and numerous disappearances. The Gansu region's vulnerabilities to such events were highlighted as communities face challenges from extraordinary rainfalls linked to climate change, prompting significant disaster relief funding.

In response to severe flooding in China's arid northwest, President Xi Jinping has mandated exhaustive rescue operations following torrential rains that claimed ten lives and left 33 missing. In Gansu province's Yuzhong, intense downpours prompted flash floods impacting nearly 4,000 individuals.

Extreme weather, attributed to climate change, has intensified precipitation in the region characterized by susceptible loess plateaus. The loose, saturated soil prompted devastating flash floods across the vulnerable terrain.

Emphasizing the urgency, Xi urged prompt action in locating the missing, relocating those at risk, and rapidly restoring vital infrastructure. The National Development and Reform Commission has allocated 100 million yuan for Gansu's relief efforts, part of a broader 6 billion yuan disaster response fund.
